This week in K

Hello Parents,

THIS IS A LONG POST - BUT PLEASE BEAR WITH ME AND READ IT ALL! :)

It's been awhile since I posted last. It's been so busy this month and about to get busier with the last weeks of school - 24 days left!

I think back to the beginning of this school year and how far these kids have come! This group of kids have truly been a great group of kids and wish that I could keep them for another year! They have become smart, wonderful readers. I love to see their achievement and just smile when they have an idea or figure out something! :) What a great year and great kids!

Tee-shirt Form:
Mr. Skelton is buying each student a T-shirt for Lincoln's Wacky Fun Day.
This shirt is free to you - we just need to know what size of shirt your child wears.

Pictures:
Friday - we sent home pictures and a note explaining pictures.
Everyone was required to get their pictures taken.

If you do not want them
-it is as simple as returning all of the pictures and envelope back to school.

If you want some or all of the pictures sent home -
please read the info sent home for the pricing. You can send in a check or pay online for the items that you want. Send in what you don't want and the money for what you did take.

Lincoln needs to have either the money for the pictures or the pictures back! :)

Phonics:
In the last weeks of school (5 wks) we will cover these lessons in phonics:

digraphs: sh, th, ch
vowel digraph oo (like in hook and in tooth), ee
long vowel - consonant - sneaky e (a-e, u-e, o-e, i-e, or e-e),
Combinations: ar, er, or

In math - we will work on subtraction and review all of the other topics we learned this year before I send these kiddos off to first grade.

I want to do a lot of reading, writing and making words these last few weeks. We will putting those skills we learned the whole year of letter sounds, and blending them together. Those letters sounds and blending are the groundwork for the rest of their lives.

Over the summer - please review these sounds and practice reading!

Rolling Ridge Trip:
Friday - May 7th
Please sign permission slip and send in $5 if you haven't already.

Kindergarten Screening:
Do you know of any children that will be 5 before or on August 1, 2010? They need to go to a Kindergarten screening. The parents need to register for a time.
Lincoln's time is May 18 - 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

This is the first screening that Coshocton has done in a long time. The purpose is to meet the kids and parents and to welcome them to our school! Also, the staff wants to have an idea of abilities and personalities so we can better prepare our classrooms and teaching.

Since you are almost done with the "kindergarten experience" :) what advice would you give to the new students and parents coming in? Is there something you wished that you knew or would have worked on with your child before kindergarten? What would you like us to share with the new parents/students at the screening? Any advice or materials we could provide to them?

We want to make this screening beneficial for the staff, children, and the parents. We want to send home that day ideas of things to work on before school starts so everyone is more prepared and not overwhelmed.

If you could write me a quick note/email on your thoughts on what we should share - please let me know.

Thanks -
Mrs. Baylor
