Get Ready for K!

Parents,

It is August! I can't believe that the summer is almost gone. We have 3 weeks left before your little kindergartener comes to school! In these weeks - want to know what you can work on?

1. Work on writing name
2. Work on letters.
  • We start with the letters l, o, g, h, t, p, a, n.
  • We will review letters and sounds daily but each week we will also take a closer look at each letter. We'll do one letter a week and then review all of the sounds/letters.
  • Work on recognizing the letter, what sound it makes, and writing it.
  • Check out "The Letter Factory". It is a DVD that teaches letters and sounds. It is well work the money.
3. Work on numbers.
  • Numbers 1-10 (Work on 1-20 if your child has mastered 1-10)
  • Work on recognizing the number, writing it, and counting.
4. Work on cutting and gluing.
  • More links on the right side of the screen. (Cutting and Gluing Practice)
  • Using scissors properly and cutting out simple shapes
  • Using glue independently. (I know it sounds silly - but many kids cannot open the glue, use the glue, and shut the bottle by themselves. This task takes a lot of time and clean up until they can do this interdependently.
5. Being Independent
  • Cutting & Gluing by self
  • Writing name by self
  • Coloring by self
  • Button own pants
  • Take off / on own shoes. Tie own shoes.
  • Folding nap blanket by self
  • Cleaning up after self
  • Using the bathroom by self and cleaning up own messes

Knowing these skills will be very beneficial for your child in kindergarten. It will make things go more smoothly and help this HUGE transition be less overwhelming and stressful for your child and you!!!!!
