This week in K

Hello!

Letter Y:
This week we are going to work on the letter Yy as in yarn. (We will cover the letter y as a vowel later in the year.)

Please work with your child on this letter. Some kids want to say the /y/ sound like it is a /w/ or a /u/. These letters are extremely tricky. They also want to say the /y/ sound when I ask for the /u/ sound like in umbrella.

I am going to send home a book on Wednesday. Please read it with your child and send it back on Thursday.

Money:
We will work on money this week at school for math. There will be a math test this week where they will have to circle the coin that I say.

What can you do?
At home - find a handful of coins. Have them sort the coins in groups. (Put all of the pennies together, put all of the nickels together, etc.) Have them count by 1's for the pennies. Have them count by 5's for the nickels. Have them count by 10's for the dimes.

Other News:
  • Popcorn sales on Friday for 50 cents.
  • 100 Day: Our 100th day is on Monday. Please send in their 100 day project by Monday. They have to make a collection of 100 of something they like.
